Where Food meets Love at Siam Secret

What's the big secret about Siam? I would say its owner Benny Liu. He runs Siam Secret with passion for he is a zealous boss. You can tell from the dishes he serves.

In Thailand, this dish is called Garden Fish because I think its cooked in varies herbs, and red onions, mango shreds, ginger, lemongrass, lime leaves and cashew nuts. Its deep fried sea bass served with a generous flow of the above.

I think what makes this popular dish a winner is how well its marinated and cooked in the pandanus leaf. Pandanus leaves can be found almost everywhere in Thailand. Its a well-loved flavoring for many local recipes too.

If you can get the taste of egg yolk in this dish, you know you have reached the heart of this wonderful prawn dish. This is obviously for salted egg and prawn lovers, I'm happen to be one of them!

All Japanese and were trained at Tokyo@9 by Sweet Basil

Singapore's neighborhood contains a lot of streets worthy of exploring and one of this is at Purvis street which is a single block between Beach road and North Bridge road. This is where a Japanese salon namely Nine by Sweet Basil is located and it is just across Raffles hotel. You might walk past their entrance but look out for the red outlined door or just remember it is at 26A. 

I opted for a hair treatment since the hair stylist said my hair is oily. She suggested a treatment that will remove sebum and the rest of the chemical substance inside of my hair shaft. By the way, their hair treatment products are from Italy. These are the five steps of the treatment which took around one to one and a half hours.



1. Analysis of my scalp. My hair is oily.

2. Purify. I've waited for twenty minutes and the stylist washed the solution away after.

3. Application of the hair treatment while the stylist was massaging my scalp with treatment lotion for it to be absorbed and to be spread evenly.

Voila! I feel so fresh and my head feels so light! I can surely feel the improvement of the condition of my hair. You can now see that it is smoother, silkier and definitely healthier!

Gracious Eyelash Extension most busy women need.

Good gracious me, have you ever heard of a salon that does nothing but eyelash extension? The sister brand of 'Nine by Sweet Basil' hopes to cater for the growing demand of eyelash extension in Singapore. Despite the myth, it will not ruin our natural lashes.

Putting on eyelash extension however is time consuming. Most busy women on the go will not have to time to curl with a curler.

There are three types of lash extensions: synthetic, silk and mink. It took about 2 hours to apply the full eyelash extensions, so there I was patiently waiting as the lashes were applied one at a time with a formulated, semi-permanent glue. Don't worry, it won't harm the natural lashes. A licensed and experienced lash technician will not let an infection occur, and there is a difference when it comes to allergic reaction.

My eyelash was a C-C-Curl. C-Curl is the firmest/sturdiest type of curl. It adds glamor and lash to my eyelash extension. Of course there are the J and B, but C-Curl is perfect for my video shooting.
For color, I went for black though many colors were available for you to choose from, like blue, dark & light brown, etc... Again I have to bear in mind of the video shoot I need to do almost everyday, so classic black will match anything. The length of the eyelash was I used are 8,9,10 as advised by the lash technician Mimi. She is as professional as the staff at Nine by Sweet Basil.

Thai villa in the east is happiness when we eat


555 Villa Thai is a perfect place for chilling out, with live band & yummy Mookata!. Don't be fool by its simple facade as this restaurant serves one of the best Thai food in town, hood bar & cafe, is also breaking the mould with its fresh concept. 555 Villa Thai is the winning formula that is credited to the supply of fresh seafood and mookata, it’s an amalgamation of barbeque and steamboat, the best of both worlds.

Mango Pomelo Salad, the pomelo tastes like a sweet, mild grapefruit very juicy, together with the mango for a fruity salad, with a dash of olive oil and vinegar. Taste sweet & sourish, light & fruity.. This salad needs to be consumed immediately after it’s tossed. But it doesn’t matter because we finish it in one sitting.

Mookata is refering to a dome-shaped grill with a soup trough that is placed over charcoal embers, along with live seafood, moo means pork in Thai, kata is skillet. In Thai barbeque steamboat, they bring the best taste. It originated from Northern Thailand, though one may argue how the interesting ‘domed shape hotpot’ came about. The origin story about how the soldiers in Chiang Mai grilled meat using their helmets, eventually creating a metal domed shaped hotpot we see today, To eat Mookata, first one has to lather the pork lard provided to grease the metal skillet, which then use to grill the meats. The surface eventually gets really charred though. Simple soup is also poured into the moat surrounding the skillet. Traditional Mookata in Thailand just use plain water. The lightness of the soup allows the broth to easily take up the essences of the grilled meat juice that flow down, mixing together with the boiled vegetables in the broth to create a flavourful and rich taste in the soup. The mookata makes for a great family dinner.

Salt-Baked Tilapia fish, the fish is wrapped with thick salt, it's hard as a brick, so give it a whack around the edges with the back of a spoon, and if lucky, the whole top will peel off. Carefully brush the excess salt off fish, trying not to let the salt touch the flesh, then gently move it to a platter using a fish slice. Run a knife along the spine of the fish up to the head, then cut across the fish below the head. Use the knife to find the bones, then carefully lift the fillet up so the fish opens like a book. Discard the skin and bones and put beautiful big flakes of fish on your serving plates, garnish with the parsley, a squeeze of lemon juice and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, makes beautifully moist fish.
Seafood Tom Yam,  creamy seafood tom yam soup. The dish uses fresh seafood and mushroom, and is finished with evaporated milk to give you a perfect blend of spicy flavours balanced with a creamy soup texture. Deliciously hot and bursting with strong spicy flavours. It's flavourful and undeniably delicious.
Kang kong fritters served with a spicy coconut dip and all their sauces are made from scratch.

I have always wonder how ramen came about, but there is no record on the origin of ramen. The best guess would be from the Chinese because the name ramen is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese lamian; make every sense right? Ramen expert Hiroshi Osaki said that the first specialized ramen shop opened in Yokohama in 1910. The ingredients for ramen are wheat flour, salt, water, and kansui. Kansui is a type of alkaline mineral water, containing sodium carbonate and usually potassium carbonate, with a small amount of phosphoric acid. The Ramen House did the necessary research on its preparation - yes the ramen, and managed to achieve the same standard as the ramen in Japan. Anyway, I love the volcano ramen, the spiciness of the Volcano Ramen is manageable, not so spicy after all. I would have to say I made the best decision to order this tasted amazing.

Sunshine Dragon Maki
Sunshine Dragon Maki, is an inside out sushi which means the rice wraps around the ingredients, typically there is shrimp tempura avocado and cucumber inside. The body is filled with tasteful combination of crunchy tempura shrimp and avocado. Flavors are enhanced with mango slices. The dragon is brought to life with the positioned food elements, completed with a blaze of mayonnaise sauce on top.

Get healthy with grilled edamame, where usually the methods are either boil or steam. With Grilled edamame, I can taste the sweetness of the young soy bean that retains the protein nutrient in each bean.

Enoki Mushrooms Wrapped In Yakiniku Beef
Yakiniku beef means grilled beef literally; and you get a lot more flavor when your beef is grilled with char burn fragrance. The seasoning is prefect, tasted like the rice wine, vinegar and soy sauce. This is an extravagant dish, so I do encourage you pamper yourself with this lovely Yakiniku Beef wrap.

Welcome to Master Chef Peter Neo's new dining experience. With his 6 months stint in Italy, he managed to master Italian cuisine from an Italian chef . Upon his return, he has created dishes and widely interviewed for his comments. He was invited for food demonstrations and classes, interviews on radio and TV programmes.

I think he is attempting Chinese-Italian fusion with Mix It Up. Sounds like a show on Disney Channel. Back to Master Chef Neo - I had Vongole, aglio olio, samba pasta, risotto, lasagna and pizza. I did not miss any dishes, we just gobble it all up. Hmm, I wonder if Master Chef Peter Neo is a Disney boy. I feel happy here too!

Anyway, lasagna is healthy eating you know right? Generally meat contains nutrients,  A 100 gram portion of raw ground beef contains vitamin B12, B3 (Niacin), B6, iron, zinc, selenium and various other vitamins and minerals. Cheese provides calcium and protein, as well as some vitamin A, B12, riboflavin, zinc and phosphorus. It's a source of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a fat that may have anti-cancer, weight-reducing, and heart-protective effects!
The Risotto was so well served, It was creamy light, not mushy. He definitely chose the right cheese for this dish. The pasta sauce was made from olive oil, garlic and healthy salt. The taste is natural and delicious. For daily intake of carbo, this would be the number 1 choice for health food!

Exquisite food at Nan Jing Restaurant!

Have you heard of Huai Yang cuisine? Its widely seen in the Chinese culinary arena because its almost part of the heritage of China, like Cantonese cuisine, Shandong cuisine and Sichuan cuisine. Nian Jing Restaurant serves primarily Huai Ying cuisine, and they have the elegance of the interior to match the dishes they serve.

This dish dates back to the Qing Dynasty, and it was very famous dish then. Its a local dish from Nanjing, China. The beauty of this dish is not greasy. Its fragrant and crispy just the way I like it. Did you know 80 000 ducks are consumed a day at Nanjing? It exceeded the likes of the chicken. Anyway, I love this dish very much!

Jellyfish Salad
This dish is mixed with soy sauce, sesame oil, vinegar, and sugar. The jellyfish is well soaked prior the ingredients for its very tender and delightful as you take your first mouthful. Generally, this is consider a light dish. I like it very much too.

Braised Minced Pork Hot & Spicy Blinds Ball in Brown Sauce
This is not a straight-forward dish to prepare. The name itself suggested the numerous steps necessarily for the minced pork and spicy meat ball. The essence of this dish is round, like the round ball that symbolizes 'unity' or 'togetherness'. The ingredients include ginger, spring onion, oil, coriander, sesame oil, corn flour, egg, light soy sauce, cooking wine, salt, and anise star. I thought the chef did a wonderful job in its presentation, because I can see the round vegetable ball in the middle of the claypot.

This is usually serve as cold-appertizers in a Chinese banquet or snack. The ingredients for the sauce is the ready-made Chinese Marinade, pre-mixed soy sauce with five spices added, dark soy sauce, dried mandarin peels, a stick of cinnamon, coriander, star anises, Sichuan peppercorn and cloves. The beef shank was tender and easy to digest.
